Overaa Construction recently broke ground聽on the California Trail, a new exhibit at the Oakland Zoo. The project represents a milestone for the Oakland Zoo, positioning it as a leader in conservation education and stewardship of our state鈥檚 natural history.
The exhibit will feature live native animal and plant exhibits including grizzly bears, California condors, bald eagles, jaguars, mountain lions, gray wolf and bison.
Fifteen structures on 20 acres will be built within the 61 acre Knowland Park. A gondola will carry zoo patrons from the Main Zoo up the ridge to the Visitor Center and restaurant featuring stunning San Francisco Bay views. An overnight experience 鈥 a camping area with platform tents – is also planned. A California Interpretive Center will highlight the delicate balance between plants, animals, and humans 鈥 and the impact of change on all three.
P站视频 is providing erosion and sediment control measures, and a temporary sound wall has been installed to reduce impact of construction activity on the nearby community. A 鈥渨ildlife exclusion fence鈥 surrounding the construction site has cone-shaped outlets designed to help small animals escape the construction zone, while preventing new animals from entering the site.
The $36.8M project was designed by Noll & Tam Architects and is scheduled to open summer 2017.
